Cumberland Visitor Center

Find interactive and educational displays about the history of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal and the city of Cumberland, Maryland. Pass through a model of the Paw Paw Tunnel and step back into the hey day of the canal. Awaiting you is a life size section of a canal boat. View exhibits on the canal's construction, cargo, mules, locks, and crew.

The Gordon-Roberts House

An 1867 Victorian home built for Josiah Gordon, President of the C&O Canal. It is now a museum, education center, and special event venue.

Something for the art enthusiast. This is a collection of art that Brooke Whiting obtained during his lifetime.  Must be seen to be appreciated.  Located at 632 Washington Street in Cumberland, MD.  Call for hours of operation.

Canal Place

Cumberland, MD offers a wide variety of activities from the canal boat replica, festivals, live concerts, Western MD Railway Station, exhibit center and the C & O Canal towpath.  The towpath is great for bike riders who want a little exercise along with relaxation.

Just 12 miles west of 7 C’s Lodging.  You can find many different and unique places to explore in this historical town.  Anything from riding the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, shopping at Canal Place or sightseeing the wonderful historical houses along Washington Street.  Check out the local events at mdmountainside.com.  There are many fun and exciting things to do in our area.

Western Maryland Railroad

The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad is a non-profit heritage railroad based in Cumberland touring the 16 miles of right-of-way track to Frostburg, Maryland.  Ride one of the specialty trains like The Polar Express Train, Murder Mystery Dinner Trains, Moonshine Dinner Trains, Family Pizza Trains, Easter Trains, Private Charters, as well as Hands-on the Throttle (HOTT) Trains.  It is a great time.
